Hascal B Haile of Tompkinsville, Kentucky lived from 1906 to 1986. For most of his life he worked as a furniture maker but began making guitars professionally after retiring from furniture making in the late 1960s. He made guitars for reknowned classical and country musicians - including the original Chet Atkins solid body classical guitar. This Smithsonian Institute has a Hascal Haile classical guitar previously owned and played by Chet Atkins.
