Information:

Johann Georg Stauffer/Staufer (1778 - 1853) was a Viennese luthier who initially built instruments based on the Italian style of Giovanni Battista Fabricatore and Gaetano Vinaccia. He went on to developed his own Viennese guitar style with a curved back, narrower waist and bridge pins. Later models had machine head tuners and embedded metal frets. Christian Frederick Martin apprenticed with Stauffer from around 1811 and remained in Vienna until at least 1827 before returning home to Markneukirchen and then emigrating to the USA where he founded Martin guitars.
